Inspired by Euripides’ tragedy and a real contemporary case, “Medea’s Children” explores the limits of love and the representation of violence. Drawing on the text that formed the basis of the performance created by Milo Rau, Botond Nagy constructs a meta-theatrical device in which an apparent debate between actors and audience transforms into a fragmented reenactment of Medea’s story, past and present.
The planes of fiction and reality overlap, and the boundary between actor and character becomes increasingly unstable.
By alternating classical scenes with testimonies that take the pulse of everyday reality, the performance questions the act of crime and the ways in which it can be understood and represented. In doing so, it opens a space for reflection on violence, empathy, the madness of the contemporary world, and the responsibility of the viewer.
A bold, unsettling performance that blurs the line between myth and reality.
