The Joy at FITS 2019!

Currently under way, the Sibiu International Theatre Festival continues to surprise and seduce performing arts’ lovers with new proposals, stories, performances and an overflow of colors in the city on the Cibin river!

One of the most important main personalities of yesterday was Pippo Delbono, director, actor and unsurpassed creator of emotional performances, who will leave this year (again) a part of his soul in Sibiu upon the occasion of receiving a star on the Walk of Fame.
Yesterday at noon, the Italian creator launched his book “ Dăruirea de sine” at Habitus Bookstore and had a discussion with George Banu about the book that contains confessions, images and words about the world and, at the same time, about the author. Furthermore, on the stage of Fabrica de Cultură – Lulu Hall, the audience got the chance to see “Joy” performed by the unusual artists of Pippo Delbono’s theatre company.
The performance can also be seen today and the lucky ones who got tickets truly have all the reasons to feel Joy!

Another event-performance from yesterday that will also be performed today at FITS is “Checkpoint Woodstock” by Thalia Theatre, one of the most prestigious performing arts institutions in Germany, founded in 1843! Structured as a real history lesson, “Checkpoint Woodstock” has brought the East and the West of the 1960s face to face.

The streets of Sibiu were also enlivened by artists and spectators and no one was put off by the unfriendly storm clouds. Instead they were impressed by the talent and the creativity of the bands that animated the city: the music of Fanfara de la Cozmești, the dance of Cia Jordi L. Vidal, the circus performance of Les Colporteurs, the colorful jazz and cheerful hues of Mademoiselle Paillette.

This weekend, the Large Square will continue to host outdoor performances and on Friday evening, from 9:00 PM, DUNDU, a huge illuminated doll will come to life and promises to offer an exceptional visual and interactive experience.
Moreover, 800 cubic meters of helium were “swallowed” by fantastical characters that will freely fly in the Large Square, thanks to French company Plasticiens Volants who will perform two magical shows: “New World” (Friday) and “Leonardo, dreams and nightmares” (Sunday).
Friday evening will continue with the live concert of Pépite, a French duo that brings together American, French, and Jamaican influences in order to create a golden pop performance.

Saturday and Sunday, Batsheva Dance Company (Israel) returns to FITS with its new contemporary dance production, “Venezuela”, in which choreographer Ohad Naharin and his dancers explore the dialogue and conflict between movement and the content it represents.

The audience is still expected to contribute their good thoughts to the “Giving Tree” – a light installation made of good thoughts sent using the FITS2019 phone application or online on unicredit.ro/fits, where every message is not only turned into art but also matched by a donation from UniCredit for the theatre project Tramvaiul Sibiu-Rășinari.
The projection will take place today and tomorrow on the building of the Roman-Catholic Church from 9:30 PM.

The Gala and the Walk of Fame at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival have already become traditions. This year, the Gala celebrates six personalities who will receive stars on the Walk of Fame: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui – choreographer, dancer, Pippo Delbono – actor, director, Stan Lai – playwright, director, Maia Morgenstern – film and theatre actress, Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota – actor, director, Michael Thalheimer – director, but other prizes will also be awarded to some other exceptional creators.

Another major event included on the FITS programme is the Lantern Festival – Chinese exhibition showcasing 20 legends based on elements from the Chinese culture and the beautiful lanterns will illuminate ASTRA Museum in Dumbrava Sibiului on Sunday evening from 8:30 PM. This installation-based exhibition will be available to the general public until August 4.

The festival programme can be accessed on www.sibfest.ro.
The organizers of the festival would like to remind you of the FITS2019 mobile phone application, made available with the support of UniCredit Bank, that helps you always stay connected to what is going on during the festival including information on the festival programme, tickets, performance venues and the customization of your FITS experience. It can be downloaded on Google Play and App Store.

Tickets for FITS 2019 can be purchased online or at the Theatre Agency in Sibiu (17 Nicolae Bălcescu). During the festival, the Agency will be opened daily between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
