The 25th edition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival has begun!

For the next 10 days, Sibiu will turn into the greatest performing arts stage in Europe. Theatre, contemporary circus and dance, exhibitions, conferences and seminars, traveling theatre, concerts and other street performances, along with the Performing Arts Market, are all part of this year's complex edition.

Micro-Folie SIBIU Hotspot Cultural BRD, an exhibition at Casa Artelor in Sibiu, is a virtual journey through 500 works of art and it is a unique cultural offer carried out by the French Ministry of Culture and coordinated by La Villette, in partnership with 12 of the greatest museums in France: the Louvre, the Château de Versailles, the Centre Pompidou, La Villette, the Musée Picasso, the Musée du Quai Branly, the Philharmonie de Paris, the RMN Grand Palais, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, the Arab World Institute, The Paris Opera, the Musée d’Orsay and the Avignon Festival.

Bringing together more than 500 artworks, this unique museum is a digital trip from Antiquity to the exploration of space for both young and elder people. Closely tied to the digital museum, two corners with Virtual Reality and DIY activities are open to anyone who wants to expand their creativity. The opening of the exhibition will be held on 8 June at 4 PM.

The opening of "Focus FITS 25" photography exhibition will also take place on 8 June at 7:30 PM - an exhibition of the works of the official festival photographers - in the presence of the authors: Paul Băilă, Adrian Bulboacă, Dragoș Dumitru, Sebastian Marcovici, Mihaela Marin and Maria Ștefănescu.

The artist Dan Perjovschi and "Radu Stanca" National Theatre are celebrating the Centennial of modern Romania and a quarter of a century of FITS by means of an art installation with magnets. The installation will be located on the ceiling of the entrance platform of "Radu Stanca" National Theatre and it includes souvenir magnets donated by the people who answered the call of TNRS to send a magnetic keepsake from their holidays. The artist will start working on the "Magnet Sky" on 9 June at 12 PM, followed by the vernissage at 3:30 PM.

The first days of FITS 2018 also bring the joy on the city streets; thus, on 8 and 9 June the people in the Large Square, Cetății Park or Astra Park will be able to witness Compagnie Carabosse's exceptional performance, "Fire Installation". Habermann Market, a new outdoor performance space that has been inaugurated at this edition of the festival, will host unique and cheerful performances. This year's festival outdoor program is sponsored by Banca Transilvania.

The festival also starts with exceptional indoor performances. "American Dance Show/FLEXN" at the "Ion Besoiu" Cultural Center - a dance performance directed by Peter Sellars who will receive a star on the Walk of Fame, and "One Green Bottle" at "Radu Stanca" National Theatre - a production of Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, directed by Hideki Noda.
