Noel Witts, Professor Emeritus of Performing Arts at Leeds Beckett University, passed away this weekend.

Noel Witts, professor at Leeds Beckett University, has been a constant presence at the Sibiu International Theater Festival since its first edition. Starting with 2011, he presented the event “Cultural Conversations”, within FITS, a series of live interviews with festival guests, published by FITS with the support of the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, through the Department of Theater Art. Constantin Chiriac, the president of FITS and the teams of the Sibiu International Theater Festival, the Sibiu Performance Arts Market and the Volunteer Program, express their condolences to the grieving family and pay a last homage to the one who has been a friend of Sibiu for the past 27 years.

Noel Witts was an eminent teacher, a great friend of the festival, a great scholar and a great promoter of British and European culture! He was a master of dialogue and construction! We will continue the Cultural Conversations series in his loving memory and invite the University of Leeds to nominate a worthy successor! May your soul be guided by the light! Noel Witts was a professor at Leeds Beckett University, director of Arts Interlink Consultants, London, UK, a member of the International Theater Institute Training Committee and a member of the International Theater Institute UK Committee. In 1992 he had his first contact with Romania, during the research for the BBC documentary "Ceausescu's Court Jesters - Romanian Theater". Since 1994 it has been a constant presence of the Sibiu International Theater Festival and the Sibiu Performing Arts Market.
