Presently, the organisers are working hard on finalizing the schedule of the Market and on getting the last confirmations from those invited to special events. The official opening of the Market will take place on Monday, June 15th, at 11 a.m.; the opening consists of a press conference with the participation of Constantin Chiriac, the president of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival and reprezentatives of the Romanian Ministry of Culture. After the opening event, we will host a special conference on “European Capitals of Culture 2021”, moderated by Karel Bartak, director of the programme “Creative Europe”, within the European Commission’s Directorate General for Education and Culture. During this conference, reprezentatives of Romanian and Greek cities applying for the title will have the unique opportunity to talk to Mr. Karel Bartak and receive guidance for the projects they are preparing. In the second part of the conference, Karel Bartak will present funding opportunities within Creative Europe 2014-2020, the most important and the newest European funding frame dedicated to cultural and audiovisual projects.

A guest of honour in this year’s editions of the Market, Joseph Melillo, director of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York, will hold a special conference. Besides, Hugo de Greef, co-founder of the Festival Academy, an initiative of the European Festival Association, will moderate a significant event within the Market – Festival Readings, an educational platform of public conferences on festival artistic management. For three days, between June 16th and 18th, important festival managers will provide details about their work experience, their relationships with artists or institutional partners and will talk to participants. Professor Noel Witts will be in Sibiu this year too, moderating a traditional event: “Cultural Conversations”, a series of interviews with guests of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival. The Conversations are published with the support of the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies within the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu.
