In 2018, the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, through the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre, is partner in a new European project, Voices of Solidarity (VOICES), in association with the following organizations: ArtReach LTD - project coordinator - Museo dei Bambini Roma, CESIE Palermo and Altonale GmbH Hamburg. This project is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. The initiative aims to highlight the importance and challenges of achieving freedom and the integration of refugees in the host communities, in the context in which the European Union is facing some unique situations and new challenges - the result of its own transformation.
Migration is one of the biggest problems contemporary society is facing, both globally and in the European area. The way in which people, institutions and states respond to this problem, has the power to define us. The Artist Dan Perjovschi reflects this controversial topic, through his drawings, with empathy and sharpness. The performance Behind the Wall, combines elements related to urban art, theatre, dance, music, that support the need to debate and raise awareness of refugees in Europe at social level - through social commentaries – and individually - through short monologues transposed in motion by two dancing actors. These nonverbal monologues are based on thoughts, ideas, feelings, and conditions, taken out of interviews with refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Romania.
