Night Spheres
By: Arvo Pärt
On this night concert we will place emphasis on the Lithuanian composer Arvo Pärt, indeed one of the most played contemporary composers in the world. With the compositions Fratres (Brothers) and Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in Mirror), his music sketches an imaginary floating through spheres. The dark gothic cathedral illuminated with candle lights is the perfect place to experience this outer-space music for violin and organ.
Born in Romania, Iuliana Cotîrlea started studying violin at the age of eight. She graduated from the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, and after completing a master degree at the Bowling Green State University (USA), she came back in Romania and since 2008 she became a member of the Sibiu State Philharmonic Orchestra.
Brita Falch Leutert was born in Norway, studied organ, church music and improvisation in Norway, Holland and Switzerland. She worked as church musician in Switzerland, the northern part of Norway and, since 2015, in the Evangelical Cathedral in Sibiu.
