Ofelia Popii is one of the most acclaimed Romanian actresses of her generation, recognized for her extraordinary versatility, emotional intensity, and transformative stage presence. Born in 1978, she graduated from the Faculty of Theatre at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and became closely associated with the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu. Her international reputation was consolidated through collaborations with director Silviu Purcărete, especially in the legendary production Faust, where her portrayal of Mephisto became one of the defining performances of contemporary Romanian theatre.
Throughout her career, Popii has received numerous distinctions, including multiple UNITER Awards and a Gopo Award for Best Actress. Alongside her theatre work, she has appeared in acclaimed films such as Quod Erat Demonstrandum, Moon Hotel Kabul, and Somewhere in Palilula. Admired for her ability to move between dramatic force, vulnerability, and physical expressiveness, Ofelia Popii remains a major presence in European performing arts.
