Marcel Iureș is one of the most acclaimed and respected Romanian theatre and film actors, recognized both nationally and internationally.
Artistic career and debut:
 • Born on August 2, 1951, in Băilești, Dolj County, Romania.
 • Graduated from the “I.L. Caragiale” Institute of Theatre and Film Arts in Bucharest in 1978, studying under renowned actor and professor Marin Moraru.
 • Began his artistic career at the National Theatre in Cluj-Napoca, where he worked between 1978 and 1981 and performed some of his first major roles.

Theatre work and recognition:
 • He has performed on prestigious stages such as the Bulandra Theatre and the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest.
 • He is especially celebrated for his outstanding interpretations in Shakespearean productions, including Richard II, Richard III, and Hamlet.
• He was twice awarded the title of Best Theatre Actor in Romania and received the Excellence Award at the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2019.

International career:
 • Marcel Iureș is one of the few Romanian actors to have built a notable career in Hollywood.
 • He appeared alongside major international stars such as Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible (1996), George Clooney and Nicole Kidman in The Peacemaker (1997), and Bruce Willis in Hart’s War (2002).
• Other international productions in which he appeared include Interview with the Vampire (1994) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007).

Since 1995, Marcel Iureș has served as president of the ACT Theatre Cultural Foundation, which he founded, marking a defining moment in the development of Romania’s independent theatre scene.

Marcel Iureș remains an emblematic figure of Romanian culture, an artist of remarkable talent and exceptional versatility, admired both for his complex theatre performances and for his work on the international silver screen.


Alexandru Dabija is a theatre director and one of the leading figures in contemporary Romanian theatre.

Artistic career and education:
• Born on February 13, 1955, in Piatra-Neamț.
• He graduated from the “I.L. Caragiale” Institute of Theatre and Cinematographic Arts in Bucharest, Department of Directing, in 1976.
• He began his artistic career at the Youth Theatre in Piatra-Neamț, where he staged his first major productions.

Directing Career:
• He has directed productions at some of Romania’s most prominent theatre institutions, including the Odeon Theatre, the Bulandra Theatre, the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre in Bucharest, the Act Theatre, and the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu.
• Between 1991 and 1994, he served as director of the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest.
• His repertoire includes both classical drama and contemporary Romanian and international texts.

Recognition and Contributions:
• Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous leading actors and set designers in Romanian theatre.
• He has been awarded several UNITER prizes for directing.
• His productions have been presented at national and international festivals.
