Cristian Măcelaru is a GRAMMY Award-winning conductor internationally recognized for combining interpretive precision with emotional depth and artistic generosity. He serves as Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France, while also leading the George Enescu Festival and Competition as Artistic Director. In addition, he is Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Interlochen Center for the Arts’ World Youth Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.
Highly sought after on the international stage, Măcelaru has collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. A passionate supporter of contemporary music, he has commissioned and premiered works by more than 50 composers. His recording of Wynton Marsalis’s Violin Concerto with Nicola Benedetti and the Philadelphia Orchestra earned him a GRAMMY Award.
