Molière Award-winning show on the Digital Stage in September
September’s premieres on the Digital Stage, the online platform for theatre, film, music and dance of the National Theatre Radu Stanca Sibiu, are two extraordinary shows from the 2024 Sibiu International Theatre Festival, one of them having won a Molière Award.
“The Digital Stage’s premieres in September are The Ice Hole and Afrique en Cirque, two of the shows presented to a sold-out crowd at this year’s FITS. Now, we wish to offer a chance to enjoy these great creations even to those who did not manage to purchase a ticket during the Festival,” said Constantin Chiriac, General Director of TNRS and FITS President.
Starting on September 1st, theatre lovers can purchase tickets to the French company’s 2022 Molière Award-winning production, ”Les Gros patinent bien / The Ice Hole,” by Pierre Guillois & Olivier Martin.
In a kind of English that no one can understand – not even an inhabitant of Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564, an imposing Shakespearean actor narrates the centuries-long, incredible epic journey of a man – maybe his ancestor. On the shores of a fjord in the Faroe Islands, in an unknown and, no doubt, long-forgotten era, the man is cursed by a mermaid he caught by chance in the frozen and salty waters, under the magnificent auspices of the northern lights, which at that very moment were being crossed by a late flock of cranes in flight to Africa.
The second September premiere is “Afrique en Cirque” by Canadian company Cirque Kalabanté, directed by Yamoussa Bangoura.
The show by Yamoussa Bangoura is inspired by daily life in Guinea and shows off the beauty, youth and artistry of African culture. Beyond the multi-coloured set and costumes which pay homage to Guinean culture, “Afrique en Cirque” is a show capable of breathing life into any theatre and which symbolizes the power, agility and joy of living of young people in Africa. To the tune of melodic afro-jazz beats, percussion and kora, the public will enjoy gravity-defying acrobatics and human pyramids. For the Digital Stage, the monthly, quarterly and annual subscriptions include all of the 80+ available performances, along with two show premieres every month. Lovers of theatre, film, dance and music can choose the 12-month subscription for the price of 6 months, paying 299 lei, or the subscription for 3 months at the price of 2 months, paying 89 lei. The one-month subscription costs 49 lei/a month. Spectators can also opt for an individual ticket, which allows for the viewing of a specific performance for the price of 30 lei. For the duration of one’s subscription, the shows may be viewed anytime, anywhere, and any number of times. The individual ticket is available for four hours after activation and choice of viewing time.
