Gloria Luca (b. 1988, Iași, Romania) is a multimedia artist who lives and works in Madrid. Gloria followed the Critical Images post-master course at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (2019), she holds a Master in Photography and Video Art (2016) and a Bachelor Degree in History and Theory of Art (2011) from George Enescu University of Arts in Iaşi, Romania. In her practice, Gloria works mostly with photography, installation, and text, through which she tackles themes related to social injustice, racism, migration, and the rise of populist nationalist speech within the territory of the European Union ever since the start of the Syrian civil war. Currently, she is undertaking an artistic inquiry on the urban landscape in a photographic project through which she reevaluates the Western landscape tradition while seeking to challenge its decorative function. Through her ongoing inquiry, Gloria investigates how new approaches to the landscape could forge fresh perspectives on eco-social values and transcultural emancipation.
Gloria Luca is also the author of Dan Perjovschi: The Horizontal Newspaper, a book released by Curtea Veche Publishing in September 2022. Gloria exhibited her work both nationally and internationally and participated in various artist-in-residence programs such as KulturKontakt Austria (Vienna/2018), Art Encounters Foundation (Timişoara/2018), MuseumsQuartier (Vienna/2022). In 2022, she was a fellow in the Laboratory of Art and Thought, a formation and research program run by the Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma, Palma de Mallorca. Currently, Gloria is a resident researcher in the Conjunctive Tissues training program at the Museo Reina Sofía Study Centre, Madrid.
