Founded in 1994 by Zhao Weibin, a recognized inheritor of China’s national intangible cultural heritage, the “Zhao Family Lion” Troupe represents the Guangdong lion dance tradition. It has participated in major events such as the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the Guangzhou Asian Games, the 70th National Day Gala, and the torch relay of the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
The troupe has performed its lion dance more than 30 times at the Shanghai Children’s Art Theatre. Known as a “cultural envoy,” it has performed for more than ten foreign leaders, toured over 30 countries, and won more than 100 gold medals.
In 2019, its 53-day tour of the South Pacific set a record for lion dance cultural exchange, covering 16,000 nautical miles and visiting 13 countries.
