The Horizontal Newspaper is a public space art project started in 2010 and produced by TNRS and the Sibiu City Hall. A new edition is inaugurated on the occasion of every theatre festival and is subsequently updated throughout the entire year.
“Documenta” is organized every 5 years in the German city of Kassel and is one of the world’s most important art exhibitions. On the occasion of its 15th Edition, the curator is Ruangrupa, a group of artists and architects from Jakarta, and the central concept is “Lumbung”, the Indonesian word for the barn where villagers keep and use their resources collectively.
Cooperation, community, transparency, generosity, regeneration, independence, and ecosystem are this year’s themes.
Dan Perjovschi is the only Romanian artist invited to take part in the event.
Thus, the Sibiu Horizontal Newspaper will have a twin version between June-September in Kassel.
The drawn editorials will correspond because global events impact all of us equally.
Kassel, the global capital of contemporary art, will also extend to Sibiu. With the support of FITS and Documenta, the “newspaper” on Sibiu’s end will be expanded on the PAV (Visual Arts Platform), a network exhibition uniting institutions, associations, and independent artistic positions in Sibiu and beyond it.
Dan Perjovschi was born in Sibiu, lives in Sibiu, and presents exhibitions worldwide. He has had personal exhibitions at MoMA (New York), Tate (London), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven), Kunsthalle Basel Ludwig Forum (Aachen), Kiasma (Helsinki), Macro (Roma), Nasher Museum at Duke University, MAC (Rejkjavik), etc.; group exhibitions at Centre Pompidou (Paris), Tate (Liverpool), MAC (Chicago), Stedelijk (Amsterdam), Moderna Museet (Stockholm), MoMa (Warsaw), Generali Foundation (Vienna), MUAC (Mexico City), and has participated at art biennials in Venice, Sydney, Sao Paolo, Istanbul, Lyon, Jakarta, Iași, Timișoara etc.
