Ulrike Ettinger
Germany

Ulrike Ettinger lives and works in Berlin. Among the themes addressed in her work are the folk costume as an economic and aesthetic resource and its mediatization in the socialist/post-socialist periods in Romania. Recently the artist has also started to investigate themes such as emotional landscapes / boundary spaces, craft – in art, autobiography as a method of artistic research, media as a lifestyle resource and self-empowerment. As a working method, the artist creates artifacts (drawings, graphics, publications, photographs or textile/costume work), which reveal aspects less circulated in the current understanding of the object which is viewed. She also makes use of collage, combining motifs that at first glance have nothing in common but function as aesthetic and emotional landscapes, as autobiographical investigations, simultaneities or results from the pleasure of the new object created from old, disparate things.
