Three days of love at FITS 2017. A first weekend of sold out indoor performances

The first three days of the 24th edition of FITS have broken all attendance records. More than 70,000 people per day have participated to indoor and street performances.

This year’s theme, love, could be seen in every participant’s gaze, as well as in the smiles of children who delightfully attended the activities led by Marian Râlea – the Magician at Sub Arini Park, or those organized in the Small Square, generically called “Childhood games”.

Those who preferred indoor performances came in large numbers at Fabrica de Cultură, GONG Theatre, Sala Thalia, Radu Stanca National Theatre, CAVAS and many other venues to enjoy the invited performances. “MAL/PRAXIS”, the last chapter of the trilogy created by Bogdan Georgescu, “#HowFarAwayAreWeFromTheCavesWeCrawledOutFrom?”, had two completely sold out representations, while “Live Cinema”, a performance within the project “American Democracy Series” created by Brent Green & Sam Green, has presented the unknown part of the life of Louis Armstrong, a moment that has been highly appreciated by the audience at Sala Thalia in Sibiu.

“Spring Awakening”, another sensitive performance, delighted the audience in the Lulu Hall at Fabrica de Cultură, while “Frederick Douglass Now” was highly appreciated by the American soldiers at Academy of Land Forces, who have gathered there especially for this performance.

“Vangelo”, the much-awaited performance-event staged by Pippo Delbono, has touched the audience by evoking the traumatic events during the Cold War which have reshaped history, places and borders of Croatia – through the memory of the Croatian artists who have performed.

On Sunday, tens of thousands of people came to the Big Square to see the circus performance “Giant Sway Pole” and the energetic concert staged by the Dutch band De Staat.

“Everyone is amazed by this event, by its size, by the way in which it unites the society, no matter what the political and social context might be”, said Rimas Tuminas, theatre director and festival guest.

The fourth day of the festival (and the first day of a new week) will mark several premieres: the Israeli season will start with t“Vertigo 20” – contemporary dance performance marking the 20th anniversary of Vertigo, while Radu Stanca National Theatre will have an absolute premiere with the performance “Happy Holidays” directed by Cristian Juncu, in which we will see the performance of the actor Raluca Cristina Cornea, winner of the campaign “Be part of the story”, organized by FITS. “None of your business!”, an exploration of the Romanian story “Dănilă Prepeleac” written by Ion Creangă, and “Winter”, directed by Mihai Măniuțiu, will continue the Romanian season at FITS 2017.

The access of the audience to the street events scheduled at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival is free of charge. The access to indoor performances is based on tickets issued by the Theatre Agency in Sibiu, Strada Nicolae Bălcescu nr. 17, starting from 29 May to 2 June, between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.; on Saturday and Sunday, 3 and 4 June, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.; the Agency will be open between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on 5 to 18 June.
