Grace and Perfect Technique in Dance. The Israeli Season Has Started at FITS 2017

The fourth day of the 24th edition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival started with the official opening of the Performing Arts Market. For five days, specialists in arts and culture, operators and managers of cultural institutions get together to exchange ideas, opinions and to create collaborations. This year there is a new section in the programme – Speed Networking, an opportunity for artists and event producers to meet for ten minutes with representatives of prestigious cultural institutions from around the world.

“Culture relies on diversity. The Sibiu International Theatre Festival and The Sibiu Performing Arts Market are two projects which prove this point. Culture must be approached in a systematic vision, both at macro level, as well as at institutional level. Culture is a vital component of the social system, driving all other elements: economic, demographic, social”, said Erwin Șimșensohn, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and National Identity of Romania.

George Banu had a dialogue with Pippo Delbono at Habitus Bookshop, followed by the world premiere projection of the film “Vangelo” – a warm discussion about the exploration of the artist in theatre, dance, music and cinematography.

The performance “Happy Holidays” based on the texts of Neil LaBute, directed by Cristian Juncu, marked another premiere: Raluca Cristina Cornea, winner of the campaign “Be part of the story”, organized by FITS, has played a role in the performance, and the audience appreciated her presence on the stage of the national theatre. “Before the performance I was very calm, I wasn’t nervous at all, but a few moments before getting on stage I felt I wasn’t so calm anymore. It was an amazing experience, and when I saw the audience applauding in the end, that was a special moment for me”, Raluca Cornea said after the performance.

The Israeli season started on Monday, 12 June, with the event- performance “Vertigo 20”, marking twenty years of artistic quest of Noa Wertheim, choreographer at Vertigo in Israel. The eleven dancers have been recalled countless times on stage by the public at the end of the performance, while most of the spectators wanted to come back for the second performance of the company, “Yama”, scheduled on 13 June in FITS.

The fifth day will welcome the audience to both street performances and indoor performances. “Gulliver the Tallest”, “Body Concert”, “The Controversy of Valladolid” or “Humans” are some of the indoor performances, while on the streets of Sibiu, traveling stories will delight the public once more.

The access of the audience to the street events scheduled at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival is free of charge. The access to indoor performances is based on tickets issued by the Theatre Agency in Sibiu, Strada Nicolae Bălcescu nr. 17, starting from 29 May to 2 June, between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.; on Saturday and Sunday, 3 and 4 June, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.; the Agency will be open between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on 5 to 18 June.
