Celebrating European diversity and freedom of expression

In the year 2018, the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, through the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre, is a partner in a new European project: Voices of Solidarity (VOICES), financed through the Creative Europe program.

UK cultural development agency ArtReach, is leading this ambitious partnership between European organisations to deliver the VOICES project. VOICES is a new artistic collaboration that explores and celebrates the values of freedom and seeks to hear the voices of less visible people and groups, including refugees and asylum seekers.

Partners with ArtReach in this project are the street arts festival Altonale GmbH (Hamburg, Germany), childrens’ museum Explora - Il Museo Dei Bambini (Rome, Italy), community development agency CESIE (Palermo, Italy) and the organizer of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, Teatrul National “Radu Stanca” (Sibiu,Romania).

VOICES comprises

On the one side, four new commissions of site specific outdoor theatre created the UK, Germany, Italy and Romania, and presented together in each partner country. ArtReach has entrusted Parrabbola to realize the first performance in the UK. As such, the company will create the performance “Wheeze – The Wind of Change”, the will be presented next summer in London and Leicester.

On the other side, five processional performance events created and delivered in Palermo, Hamburg, London and Leicester. The events will involve hundreds of local people and newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers in each location, creating a colorful parade. The theme of the parades will be “Welcome” and people are encourage to join through free access.
VOICES will be presented , from spring to autumn of 2018, at the Explora Museum in Rome. “VOICES is a further development of our inspiring European partnership work, exploring new artistic collaboration and with a strong element of audience development including the integration of refugees and asylum seekers,” declared David Hill, Director of ArtReach.
