A Touching Conclusion of the 24th Edition of FITS

Sunday, 18 June, marked the end of the 24th edition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, an edition in which all performing arts received special attention both from the organizers, and from the audience. The contemporary circus season certainly was one of the most followed by the audience, and all the contemporary dance performances were sold-out. Classical and modern theatre was combined, according to the audience’s preferences, with traveling performances on the streets of Sibiu. The unanimous opinion of the audience was that FITS 2017 truly was a memorable edition.

The last day of the festival brought the clear skies back to Sibiu when the street performances started. Thousands of people travelled from the city centre towards the worlds created by the guest artists. The performance halls also offered a theatrical celebration: “Naharin’s Virus”, “Faust”, “Korean Drum II” or “The Iliad” were some of the options of those who preferred indoor performances.

Kadebostany, the Swiss band with a unique visual stylistic identity performed in the Big Square in Sibiu, right after the traveling performance “Microcosmos”, in the presence of thousands of people who came to enjoy live music.

FITS 2017 ended as usual, with intense fireworks, offered by the organizers to all those who assisted to the joy of receiving love through performing arts. The Horizontal Newspaper, written with love by Dan Perjovschi, was a meeting point for all those who wanted to hear the conclusions of the 24th edition of FITS, shared by the President of the festival, Constantin Chiriac.

“We have been very lucky this year, no performance has been cancelled because of the weather, although everywhere in the country severe thunderstorms were forecasted.

We offered and we will continue to offer you our dreams and I would like to thank those who made this festival happen. I would like to thank our wonderful team and the city for being so proud of this Festival, as well as the volunteers and their parents who understood their need to get involved in order to continue to grow beautifully.

I think it is important to multiply and to adapt our work according to the needs of each community. Thank you, journalists, for being here with your microphones and for supporting us in our quest to send joy and emotion, from here, Sibiu.”

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival would like to thank the institutional partners, the sponsors, the media partners and the co-organizers.
