In the Name of the Father
Text by: Elena Vlădăreanu
Directed by: Robert Bălan
With: Virgil Aioanei, Carmen Florescu, Ozana Oancea
Whether you take the liberty to refuse any religion, or you are a churchgoer, at a given moment somebody will decide and will speak on your behalf. “In the Name of the Father” is a about people and personal stories, about how a religious environment interferes with intimate, social or professional life. It’s an act of bravery to speak about religion in a moment when being religious means supporting a political agenda. Wrapping up confessions, opinions and memories of an active religious life, with the good and the bad things, in a theatre show is an occasion to reinstall religion as an essential part of private life, as well as an invitation for debate.
The show consists of a series of six monologues and other scenes based entirely on interviews with different people on the subject of religious childhood and its effects in the adulthood.
Performance in Romanian, with translation into English.
Performance not recommended to audiences under 14.
