George Banu in dialogue with Vincent Baudriller
Since September 2013, Vincent Baudriller is the director of the Théâtre de Vidy in Lausanne, a great theatre in western Switzerland for creation and performing arts with an international influence, for Swiss and foreign artists. He wants contemporary creations to be accessible to a wider audience from Lausanne and its region and tour shows produced by Vidy.
Born in 1968 in Valenciennes, he grew up in Paris and Dunkerque, studied in Rouen, where he organized a student theatre festival, and later worked two years in Madrid. In 1992, he joined the Avignon Festival to be in charge of production, becoming progressively artistic advisor. In 2003 he was appointed head of the Festival, with Hortense Archambault, to co-lead it together from 2004 to 2013. They made the Avignon Festival a center for contemporary performing arts in dialogue with other artistic fields, opened to a wider audience. Each year, they chose one or two artists to be at the heart of the Festival (Thomas Ostermeier, Jan Fabre, Josef Nadj, Frédéric Fisbach, Romeo Castellucci, Valérie Dréville, Wajdi Mouawad, Christoph Marthaler, Olivier Cadiot, Boris Charmatz, Simon McBurney, Stanislas Nordey, Dieudonné Niangouna). He completed his term in Avignon with the construction of a large venue for residence and rehearsals, “La Fabrica”, which he opened in July 2013 before coming to Lausanne.
