Initiation exercises of first-year choreography students give us a glimpse of physical theatre tuition in Târgu Mureş. Choreographed etudes present various materials in movement, emphasizing their dynamics, quality and transformation capabilities. The dancers discover the human body, far from their comfort zone, while spectators see water, oil, honey, chewing gum, rope and metallic spring coming to life.
Straining and relaxation coming from within the matter, impulses acting on parts of the body create movement that confronts physical reality such as gravity, weight and friction. Materials, as it happens in daily life, interact, come in contact with each other, change their future as they unite or separate, communicating through touch. Transmitting impulses, transferring weight, influencing balance is the dancers’ first step towards showing us the world we live in. Substances coming to life breathe on the rhythm of music affecting dynamics, counterpoints, accents, energy and moods.
Performance not recommended to audiences under the age of 12.
