„Teacher: You always have a tendency to add. But one must be able to subtract too. It's not enough to integrate, you must also disintegrate. That’s the way life is. That’s philosophy. That’s science. That’s progress, civilization.” Eugène Ionesco, „The Lesson” „«The Lesson» is a very powerful political text, one of the most subtle and yet generous texts – it is composed and structured in such a way that one can reflect in its mirrors any form of dictatorship, any political action that targets dehumanization, destruction of human individuality and freedom. Genocide, brainwashing, ethnic cleansing, mass murder, all happening before our eyes. We cannot pretend anymore that we do not know about it. We live in an age where we are all interconnected. Those who claim they do not know, choose to keep their eyes closed. Performances such as Ionesco’s «The Lesson» urge people to open their eyes. One cannot escape nightmares claiming to be playing in a fairy scene.” (Mihai Măniuțiu)
