„Darkness spreads across the city. Behind each window, lamps light up stories I’ll never know. When it gets dark, I watch them go on one by one and I write. Often, when I write, rhythm comes before the words do and images come before meaning or else I imagine a movement and someone appears and I try to understand (who) this person (is). I live on the ninth floor of an industrial building on Ontario Street in Montreal and now, at night, it’s very quiet.” Artists are being evicted from an industrial building. A woman is writing. Friends are separated, spirits wander aimlessly in deserted places, and messages are hidden in between walls for the archaeologists of the future. Revisited eleven years after its creation, „The Darkness” still sheds light on the hidden violence and deceit that sometimes lie beneath the business of real estate development.
