The production of the National Theatre in Sibiu is an adaptation after „Oedipus at Colonus” and „Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles, and it astonishes through the power of the almost cinematographic vision of staging characteristic to director Silviu Purcărete, who combines reality with imagination, developing a poetics of excruciating details. It is a picture of terrors, of premonitions and misery, in the spirit of the great masters, a current interpretation of a legendary destiny. „Oedipus” is a return, as director Silviu Purcărete says, to his old preoccupations for tragic. „«Oedipus» is one of the most beautiful texts of dramatic literature. As it has been noted before, I returned to Greek tragedy after many years, an opportunity to again exercise my desire to create the same images that I had not worked with for some time”, Silviu Purcărete said during the rehearsals in Sibiu.
