The music of Anda Union draws from all the Mongol tribes that Genghis Khan once unified. The members of Anda Union have different ethnic backgrounds and they bring these influences into their music. In their own words: „there is a wealth of folk music for us to learn from, so far our repertoire of songs is just like a drop in the ocean”. The concert will give vivid examples of how the group gathers music stemming from century old traditions. The musicians dig deep into the Mongolian heritage and unearth forgotten music. They are on a mission to stimulate their culture and reengage young Mongols, many of whom have forgotten how to speak their own language. The band Anda Union is part of a musical movement that is finding inspiration in old and forgotten songs, drawing on a repertoire of magical music that had all but disappeared during China’s recent tumultuous past. Anda Union hold on to the essence of Mongolian music whilst creating a form of music that is new.
