„La Ronde”, sometimes also called „Hands Around”, a play the show is based on, was written by Austrian author Arthur Schnitzler. It scrutinizes the sexual morals and class ideology through a series of encounters between pairs of characters shown before or after a sexual encounter. By choosing characters across all levels of society, the play, sometimes criticized as being overly pornographic, offers social commentary on how sexual contact transgresses boundaries of class. The title of the play, in German „Reigen”, refers to a round dance. In 1922 Sigmund Freud wrote to Schnitzler that “you have learned through intuition – though actually as a result of sensitive introspection – everything that I have had to unearth by laborious work on other persons.” Presented by acting class students, the production reaches out to audiences through the universal language of dance, in this particular case through the sensual world of tango.
Performance not recommended under 16 years old
