Katurian, a very young writer of strange short stories often showing violence against children, has been arrested and is being interrogated  by two detectives, Ariel and Tupolski, because some of his stories resemble recent child murders. When he hears that his brother Michal has confessed to the murders and implicated Katurian, he resigns himself to his execution, but attempts to save his stories from destruction. Radu Afrim's staging of McDonagh's "Pillowman" deals with contemporary violent issues of today's society and builds up to reach the most important aspects of the social stake of art. "The only duty of a storyteller is to tell stories" says Katurian in the first scene of the play. What follows questions this statement and the legitimacy of an artist's social involvement and responsibility, talks about his freedom and about different levels of censorship.
