It was very risky to invite the genius Lithuanian director Eimuntas Nekrosius to work with the play "Cherry Orchard" in Moscow. Nekrosius had never worked with Russian actors before, especially with actors from different theatres. No one from the theatre public believed that this project would work. But the great director, who collects various theatre Prizes all around Europe, created with the Russian actors a truly grandiose performance. And today, on the threshold of Anton Chekhov's 150^th anniversary, the production "Cherry Orchard" shows precisely the hard and amazing reality of the Russian intellectuals who are not able to change their living to any better. The direction and the metaphors are multilayered and gradually draw into the action. The actors masterly act and create uncommon atmosphere of tenderness, love, disappointment and joy. The production was a spectacular event in modern Russian theatre life. It is a great production about people's fate and the fate of Russia itself.
