„Faust” is more than a theatre performance. Violent, emotional and visceral, „Faust” invites the audience to a strong individual experience about pain, death and love. Considered as a milestone in the history of the Romanian theatre, „Faust“ after Goethe directed by Silviu Purcărete, distinguishes itself through the directional vision and the complexity of the roles presented in the Baroque construction mastered to the smallest and vivid of details: set and light design by an impressive evocative force, provocatively suggestive costumes, elegant an burlesque, entertaining and overwhelming music with appropriate sound effects to that eccentric environment, video projections ingeniously and very well framed in the architecture of the whole stage approach monumentally created by the act of over 200 actors in an disposed industrial hall. Discover an extra sensory experience between Earth and Hell, scenery amplified by video projections, fireworks, live rock music, tens of actors and dancers and an original soundtrack created by Vasile Şirli. This modern Faust is based on improvisation, Goethe’s text being a source of inspiration for a theatrical composition where the word is not fundamental. The script of the Sibiu performance catches the essential of Goethe’s text: the pact with the devil, Faust’s sick fascination for Margaret, the Walpurgis Night and Faust’s rise to Heaven.
The project is the National Theatre „Radu Stanca” Sibiu and is funded by the Ministry of Culture, the City Council for the programme Sibiu - European Capital of Culture 2007 and by the European Commission, Culture 2000 program by the Foundation „Democracy through Culture”.
