Alexandra Irina Măruță, (born under the name of Mihai, on August 23, 1986 in Câmpia Turzii, Romania) better known to the public under her stage name – Andra – is a Romanian pop and R&B singer. Having started her musical career at the age of seven, she had her first performance in a musical competition called Tip Top Minitop as a guest, singing Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. Besides pop music, she was also performing folklore, which is why, at the age of nine, she participated in a competition called “Pe fir de baladă” in Târgu Jiu and awarded a mention. At the age of 11, she participated in another competition called The “Toamna Arișeană” Folkloric Interpretation Competition Festival where she won the first prize this time. Besides folkloric music competitions, she also participated in pop music contests, wining numerous prizes. Andra wanted a musical career and so her father, Alexandru Mihai, decided to sign her up in a musical competition taking place in Bucharest and was organized by Titus Munteanu.
